PRICING

Every price is on this page. Nothing is held back for a phone call

Most trainers around here make you email to find out what it costs. Here are all three packages, what each one includes and what it works out to per session. Training runs $280 to $320 a month, one player at a time, on outdoor courts in Bellevue, Newport or Swope.

01 / THE PACKAGES

How much does basketball training cost with Blacktop Academy?

Training is sold by the month rather than one session at a time, because skill comes from repetition and repetition needs a schedule. The longer the commitment, the less each session costs. Every package is one player at a time unless you ask for a small group.

Starter

$320Per month
  • Sessions4 a month
  • Commitment1 month
  • Per session$80

For a family who wants to see the work before planning a season around it. Four sessions, one month, no long commitment attached to it.

Foundation

$300Per month
  • Sessions12 total
  • Commitment3 months
  • Per session$75

A full block of work. Three months is long enough to change something structural, like a shooting base, a handle or a usable weak hand.

Most popular

Development

$280Per month
  • Sessions24 total
  • Commitment6 months
  • Per session$70

Sessions across half a year, which is where the largest changes happen. It is also the lowest cost per session of the three.

There are no payment links on this site. Every player starts with a free call, and a link comes after it, once you and Alex have agreed which package fits. Pick a time that works or send him the details first.

02 / THE EVALUATION

What every package starts with

Nothing gets prescribed before the player has been watched. The first session is an evaluation, and the plan that follows is written from what it finds.

  • Player evaluation
  • Skill assessment
  • Strengths and weaknesses
  • Player archetype identification
  • Shooting, ball handling and finishing evaluation
  • Movement and footwork assessment
  • A conversation about goals
  • Individual development priorities
  • A personalized development roadmap

The roadmap is the part families keep. It says what is being worked on, in what order, and what the player can run on their own between sessions.

03 / STRAIGHT TALK

Is a monthly package worth it for your family?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no, and the answer has more to do with your situation than with me. It is worth it when a player is willing to do repetition that is boring, when the schedule is real enough that the work compounds, and when there is a specific thing that needs fixing that a team practice cannot address. It is worth it when you want somebody to tell you the truth about where your player actually is.

It is not worth it if you are buying it as a signal of commitment, or to keep up with what another family is spending. It is not worth it for a player who is already training so much that another session becomes an injury risk, and I will tell you when that is the case rather than cash the check. It is not worth it if you are expecting a roster spot, a scholarship or a recruiting connection, because I do not sell any of those and I have no way to deliver them.

If money is tight, say so on the call. Starter exists for exactly that reason, and I would rather build a plan you can actually afford, with more work you run on your own, than sign you to six months that becomes a strain in month two.

04 / WHAT A PLAYER TOOK AWAY

One of Alex's players, years later

I never appeared on an All NBA team. The mentality and life skills I learned from Coach Alex Grant have propelled me in life. I am a United States Marine and a three time business owner. I owe the mindset to Coach telling me to stay scrappy.
Eighth grade, one hundred pounds, five foot eight, and Coach Alex Grant was able to get me a spot on my high school basketball roster through his coaching. The skill development and mentality his coaching taught me will never be forgotten.

05 / PRICE CONTEXT

Where these numbers sit against published national pricing

$70 to $80

What one Blacktop Academy session works out to inside a package. One player at a time, on an outdoor court in Bellevue, Newport or Swope, with a plan written for that player.

Blacktop Academy published rates

$50 to $150+

Published national range for private basketball training per hour. Group lessons run roughly $30 to $50 and semi-private roughly $30 to $75 per player. These rates sit in the lower half of that private range.

lessons.com basketball training cost

$350 to $800

Published national range for a seasonal package. Foundation totals $900 across three months and Development totals $1,680 across six, so both sit above that range because both carry far more sessions than a typical seasonal block.

Typical published session length nationally is 45 to 60 minutes. You should decide with those figures in front of you rather than take my word for the value.

06 / Questions

What people ask about this

What do the training packages cost?

There are three, all published. Starter is $320 a month for four sessions on a one month commitment, which is $80 a session. Foundation is $300 a month for twelve sessions across three months, which is $75 a session. Development is $280 a month for twenty four sessions across six months, which is $70 a session and is the one most families choose.

Why is it sold by the month instead of one session at a time?

Because skill comes from repetition and repetition needs a schedule. One session every six weeks is not a development plan, it is a nice afternoon. Committing to a month puts enough reps in a row for something to actually change, and the longer the commitment the less each session costs.

Can I pay on this website?

No. There are no payment links on this site on purpose. Every player starts with a free call, and Alex sends a payment link afterwards once you have both agreed which package fits. Nobody gets charged before that conversation.

What is included, and what is not?

Included: an evaluation, a plan written for that specific player, every session in the package, and drills you can keep running on your own at no cost. Not included: recruiting services, exposure events, highlight film, calls to school or college coaches, gym access, equipment, and any guarantee about points, minutes or a college roster spot. Nobody honest sells those.

Do you offer group or semi-private sessions to lower the cost?

Small groups of two to four run, and they are priced per group rather than at the private rate. The work is still built from each player's position, body and habits, so a group has to want the same things. Published national group rates run roughly $30 to $50 and semi-private roughly $30 to $75 per player, and there is no shame in starting there.

What happens if we have to miss a session?

Tell Alex and the session moves. Outdoor training means the weather gets a vote too, so sessions get rescheduled rather than run on a wet surface, which is how ankles get hurt. Sessions in a package are not lost because a week got busy.
